Despite Kenny Florian announcing on ESPN’s “MMA Live” last week he had agreed to fight up-and-coming lightweight Evan Dunham at UFC 126 on Feb. 5, that may not be the case just yet.
Florian’s agent, Malki Kawa, told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” that Florian’s announcement may have been premature.
“As of right now, no, he’s not (fighting Dunham),” Kawa said. “I told Kenny that Evan Dunham looks like the opponent for Super Bowl weekend. It wasn’t confirmed because we didn’t know if Evan Dunham was going to be healed in time for that fight, anyway. Then I guess there was a report put out that Evan Dunham was agreeing to the fight, as well. But then (UFC matchmaker) Joe Silva called me and said that he’s got something else that he wants to discuss first.”
Kawa did, however, leave the possibility for the fight open through a vague follow-up.
