“Age is just a number. He never did [recreational] drugs and never drank. He’s perfectly healthy. I think he’s in his best shape ever.”
UFC legend Anderson Silva turned 44-years-old last month, but the former middleweight king still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
That’s according to his manager, Jorge Guimaraes, who told ESPN Brazil’s Igor Resende that ‘The Spider’ isn’t even close to retirement, claiming that the 44-fight MMA veteran is in the best shape of his life right now.
“Absolutely not [close to retirement],” Guimaraes told said. “He’s still got plenty of firewood to burn. He has a very high IQ and knows how to train well. Age is just a number. He never did [recreational] drugs and never drank. He’s perfectly healthy. I think he’s in his best shape ever.”
Not only that, but Silva is currently in negotiations to renew his UFC contract, which Guimaraes believes will be a lucrative deal for both parties.
“Oh, the deal will be absolutely renewed,” Guimaraes said. “We’ve already talked about that, and [UFC president Dana White is] interested in it. Just take a look what the boom he caused in Brazil because of that. The UFC is interested. Good things are coming.”
Silva will look to rebound from his decision loss to Israel Adesanya when he takes on top-ten middleweight Jared Cannonier at UFC 237. The PPV takes place later tonight, May 11 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
