Manager Ali Abdelaziz wants a five-rounder between client Cody Garbrandt and Jose Aldo.
Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt isn’t running out of opponent options. With the help of his manager Ali Abdelaziz, “No Love” may be looking at a high-profile name for his next fight.
Speaking to MMA Junkie on behalf of Garbrandt, Abdelaziz made it clear that they are still chasing after the flyweight title. But if that doesn’t pan out soon, he wants former longtime featherweight champion Jose Aldo instead.
“I’m interested in Cody Garbrandt vs. Jose Aldo at 135 pounds. If the flyweight champ is available, 100 percent Cody is the No. 1 contender,” he said. “That’s what Dana White says. If he’s not available, everybody is booked or coming from losses.
“I think Cody needs a fight to get him up, and I think Jose Aldo is a fight to get him up. I think that’s a five-round fight, main event. Why not?”
Garbrandt was already scheduled to challenge Figueiredo for the 125-pound title but ended up pulling out citing a bicep injury. He still intends to make the fight happen sometime in March, but he also verbally agreed to fight Sean O’Malley in a recent Twitter war.
