On Saturday, April 12, 2014, one of boxing’s most hotly-anticipated rematches will finally take place as Manny Pacquiao gets his shot at revenge against Timothy Bradley, live on Pay Per View from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The last time these two met, Bradley escaped with possibly the most controversial decision in the sport’s history. The result was so controversial that it actually led to one of the judges retiring permanently. This fight is interesting not only because of the controversy surrounding their first fight, but because of where their careers have gone since then. Pacquiao followed up his loss to Bradley by suffering one of the most hideous knockout losses in recent history at the hands of long-time rival Juan Manuel Marquez. In his last fight, he rebounded well in a win over Brandon Rios, but seeing Pacquiao face down and unconscious for so long raised a lot of questions about his future. Bradley, for his part, has handled the backlash well with two of the best wins of his career. One, an absolute barn burner against Ruslan Provodnikov, showed that Bradley is capable of winning with exciting, dynamic offense and not just technique. The second, a narrow split decision over the aforementioned Juan Manuel Marquez in which he hurt Marquez badly with a left hand, showed that Bradley can hang with the top fighters in the world and not only survive but impose his will. Now, it has come full circle. Pacquiao will be hungry to avenge the loss he took in a fight he clearly dominated, and Bradley will try to show that his win over Pacquiao, while controversial, was no fluke.
