“I’ve never done steroids. That might be a big thing toward the longevity.”
Despite making his MMA debut over sixteen years ago, resurgent UFC contender Jorge Masvidal is in the best shape of his career and, for the first time ever, finds himself ranked in the UFC’s official top-three welterweight rankings.
Fellow MMA veteran Nate Diaz, who made his professional debut back in 2004, is also one of the best fighters in the welterweight division and one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster. The 34-year-old returned to top form this past weekend at UFC 241, where he dominated Anthony Pettis enroute to a unanimous decision in a co-headlining bout at Anaheim’s Honda Center.
Masvidal, who is currently one of the most talked about fighters in the division after scoring a sensational flying knee knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239, credits his and Diaz’ longevity to being clean athletes and avoiding steroids.
“Like Nate, I’ve never used steroids,” Masvidal told MMA Junkie. “I don’t think that dude has either. I don’t live with him, so I don’t know. But his body hasn’t really changed. He gets in better shape. Some fights, maybe he didn’t take it as seriously and wasn’t in crazy shape. But I don’t think he’s ever done steroids. I’ve never done steroids. That might be a big thing toward the longevity.”
I must be doing something right,” Masvidal added. “Or I must have not cheated back in the day, like a lot of motherfuckers did when all of you media motherfuckers were covering them, knowing these motherfuckers were on juice. Not worried about the natural killers, man. The real killers, man. Because when these curtains close, some wild shit on this side, bro.”
Masvidal claims to be in fight negotiations with Diaz after the The Ultimate Fighter 5 winner respectfully called him out in his UFC 241 post-fight interview last Saturday. UFC president Dana White, however, denied those claims and said there has been ‘no progress’ regarding the matchup.
