“If Cerrone just comes out to fight it out, I see Conor winning within the first two rounds.”
Jorge Masvidal thinks that Conor McGregor has a good chance of putting away Donald Cerrone in the early rounds in their upcoming fight at UFC 246 this month.
McGregor makes his return to the octagon after well over a year, in the main event of UFC 246 next weekend when he takes on the veteran ‘Cowboy.’ Both men will step back up to 170-pounds for the fight, and if McGregor is successful he has hinted at a future fight with Masvidal for his ‘BMF’ title.
Talking recently to ESPN, Masvidal gave his take on the upcoming welterweight fight.
“It can go many ways,” Masvidal told ESPN (Transcription via MMA Junkie). “Conor is great off the block. He’s phenomenal off the start. Cowboy is a slow starter. Conor has tremendous speed and timing in the beginning, good power, so I think he can catch him early.
“If Cowboy comes out to grapple like he has in the past with decent strikers and even good grapplers like Rick Story, who he was able to take down and create a lot of offense like that … if that Cowboy comes out, he can mix things up real nice. And then he can start to flow and get into his game of high kicks and punching and being tricky, like a dual threat to Conor.”
Masvidal fought Cerrone back in January 2017, winning by second-round TKO after almost putting ‘Cowboy’ away at the end of the first round. ‘Gamebred’ thinks Cerrone will benefit the longer the fight goes, but McGregor can get the job done early.
