Back in June, UFC president Dana White took a cheap shot at boxing promoter Bob Arum, claiming his Top Rank shows on ESPN were barely pulling better ratings than the American Cornhole League. Now we have to wonder whether he’s actively working to boost cornhole above boxing, because BMF belt holder and confirmed hot commodity Jorge Masvidal is set to compete in an August 5th cornhole event.
Cornhole, for those of you who have never visited the Midwest, is a game where players take turns tossing bean bags at a ‘cornhole’ board for points. And after an ugly incident that almost earned me an ass whupping when I visited Cincinnati for UFC 77, let me suggest you never accidentally walk between an active cornholer and their board. This is extra important if that cornholer happens to be Jorge Masvidal.
Masvidal will apparently be playing against ACL champ Cody Henderson, and in order to make things interesting Jorge will begin with a 15 point head start.
IT. JUST. GOT. REAL. @GamebredFighter will go head to head against ACL Pro Cody Henderson during the 8 pm EST ESPN2 broadcast of the Man and Woman of the Year at the 2020 ACL World Championships on Wednesday 8/5! Full release at https://t.co/j3QF35ik0t pic.twitter.com/koh7UUb4xY

Via the American Cornhole League website:
In January 2020, superstars Cody Henderson (ACL Pro) and Jorge Masvidal (MMA Fighter) met on the Cornhole boards for the very first time on Radio Row in Miami, FL. The two enjoyed some friendly banter as Henderson showcased his skills to win round after round against Masvidal. Cody gave Jorge some tips on how to improve his technique along with some basic strategy for competitive cornhole. Jorge vowed to get better and be back to compete again.
That day to compete again is Wednesday, August 5th, at 8:00 PM EST on ESPN2 as a special event within the Pit Boss Man and Woman of the Year Shootouts. This 5 Round Grudge Match will begin with Masvidal being spotted 15 points and if a player reaches 21 points by the end of the 5th Round, that will be considered a knockout. If no player achieves a KO by the end of 5th Round we will go to the scoreboard to determine the winner by decision. Jorge Masvidal says, “I have the fastest KO in MMA fighting history and now I am going for the fastest KO in Cornhole history. Cody will regret spotting me 15 points.” Cody Henderson states, “I respect Jorge’s skills in the Octagon and no doubt he would win every battle there. However, he is entering my arena, I plan to knock him out within the 5 rounds.”
Now I know the first thing you thought after reading this was “Can I gamble large sums of money on this?” and the answer is yes, you apparently can. Just like many people laid down ridiculous money on Masvidal to defeat Usman at UFC 251, you can bet on Masvidal to beat Henderson at a whopping +900 for a KO and +250 for decision.
The showdown happens Wednesday August 5th at 8PM EST on ESPN 2, and we encourage you to tune in if only to punish Bob Arum for once saying MMA is for skinheads and homosexuals. To cornhole Top Rank in the ratings would be pretty great, and you know Dana White would totally roast Bob hard should one more person watch this than any of Arum’s recent shows.
