Sadly, no sodas were sipped.
I’m not a big believer in coincidences, so I was not surprised to see Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal conveniently dropped into Super Bowl Radio Row in Miami Beach. That’s where “The Nigerian Nightmare” and “Gamebred” exchanged words, forcing a separation.
Seems like Usman, the current UFC welterweight champion, is always running into these sorts of confrontations, including (but not limited to) his backstage kerfuffles with Colby Covington and Ben Askren, though I suppose it’s better than brawling with the fans.
Not that Masvidal hasn’t seen his fair share of public shouting matches.
Usman and Masvidal started jawing at one another to drum up hype for their upcoming title fight and I guess the idea is that if we get excited enough for this 170-pound showdown, we won’t be as mad for losing the opportunity to see “Gamebred” take on Conor McGregor.
Blame UFC President Dana White, who is hellbent on getting “Notorious” another lightweight title shot.
