Jorge Masvidal wants to fight Nick Diaz next.
Jorge Masvidal wants to become the first fighter to beat both Nick and Nate Diaz.
‘Gamebred’ already holds a BMF title win over Nate but would ‘love’ to fight older brother Nick if the former Strikeforce welterweight champion and two-time UFC title challenger beats Robbie Lawler at UFC 266.
“If [Nick Diaz] looks good and does his job [at UFC 266], why not me and Nick? l’d love to fight Nick,” Masvidal told ESPN. “It’s a classic fight. It’s a fight that I always wanted to do since I was at Strikeforce at 155 (pounds], he was at 170. I was like, ‘Man, that’s a dude that I’d like to fight.’ Nothing personal, just because of his style, just the way that he leaves it all out there. So if I get a fight with Nick, it’d be a blessing.”
Diaz will return to the octagon after a six-year layoff following his No Contest (NC) against Anderson Silva at UFC 183. Despite his quasi-retired status and six-year inactivity, the Stockton local is still one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster. His fight against Lawler will be a five-rounder (as all Diaz fights should be) and feature on the UFC 266 main card, which takes place Sept. 25 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
As for Masvidal, the UFC fan favorite is looking to rebound from his knockout loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 261. He recently called out YouTube boxers Jake and Logan Paul and hopes the UFC will sign off on a boxing match with one — or both — of them.
