UFC Vegas 93 went down this past weekend (Sat., June 15, 2024) in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Tatsuro Taira defeating Alex Perez in the headlining act via second round technical knockout as a result of an injury (recap). In other action, Miles Johns defeated Douglas Silva de Andrade via unanimous decision in the co-main event of the evening.
Winner: Tatsuro Taira
Who He Should Face Next: Tim Elliott
In his first six wins with the promotion, Taira has made a name for himself by defeating all challengers put in front of him, with his latest win ending in anti-climactic fashion as a result of an injury to his opponent. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old, Japanese-born contender is putting everyone on notice and should inch closer to the Top 10 next week. A fight against Elliott makes sense since the two men were previously booked to fight last month before Elliott bowed out of the fight with an injury.
Winner: Miles Johns
Who He Should Face Next: Jonathan Martinez
After securing his second straight win, Johns could be staring at a fight against Martinez, who was last seen coming up short against Jose Aldo at UFC 301 last month. Prior to the loss, Martinez was riding high with a six-fight win streak, including securing two post-fight bonus awards. This bout has the makings of an all-out war.
Winner: Lucas Almeida
Who He Should Face Next: David Onama
Almeida managed to snap his two-fight losing streak, defeating Timmy Cuamba via unanimous decision, bringing his UFC record to an even 2-2. As for a possible matchup against Onama, that would be a good test for both men. Onama is currently enjoying a two-fight win streak, with his latest win coming against Jonathan Pearce via unanimous decision two months ago.
Winner: Brady Hiestand
Who He Should Face Next: Sergey Morozov
After stumbling out of the gates with a loss in his UFC debut, Heistand has now won three straight fights, including his submission win (rear-naked choke) over Garrett Armfield. As for Morozov, he has a UFC record of 3-2 and has won his last two fights. Both men are fairly young in their UFC careers, so may as well book them against each other to see who can take a huge step forward.
Winner: Asu Almabayev
Who He Should Face Next: Charles Johnson
Almabayev increased his win streak to 16 straight — three inside the Octagon — after defeating Jose Johnson via unanimous decision. How the promotion handles his next opponent will be crucial. Do you move him a bit faster because of his win streak? Do you continue to bring him along slowly? For my money, a fight against Charles Johnson makes sense. “Inner G” has more UFC experience than Almabayev with a record of 4-4 and was last seen in action defeating Jack Hadley last month (his second straight win).
