The most important and highest-profile bout of Matt Brown’s career is off, for now, anyway.
The UFC welterweight tweeted Saturday afternoon he’d herniated two discs in his lower back and has been forced to withdraw from his bout opposite former UFC welterweight interim champion Carlos Condit at UFC on FOX 9. That bout and event are scheduled to take place on December 14th at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. Bleacher Report was the first to report Brown had withdrawn from the bout.
On Saturday afternoon, Brown tweeted and confirmed the news:
Thanks for the support guys. I regret to inform all that I am out of the fight with Condit. I herniated 2 discs in my lower back this week.

Sources close to the situation tell MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani the UFC intends to place Condit on the UFC 170 card on February 22, but there are no plans for Brown at this time. In addition, sources say UFC is considering its options in terms of promoting a fight from the preliminary to the main UFC on Fox 9 card, but no final call has been made.
Brown, 32, is riding the longest win streak of his career with six consecutive victories inside the UFC’s Octagon. He most recently stopped Mike Pyle with strikes in 29 seconds of the first round at UFC Fight Night 26 in August. Condit, 29, is coming off of a fourth-round TKO of Martin Kampmann at UFC Fight Night 27 in August.
