Max Holloway has reiterated his desire to rematch Conor McGregor when he returns to the Octagon.

The former UFC featherweight champion is set to take on number three ranked, Yair Rodriguez this Saturday but already has one eye on what could be next. During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Holloway revealed that bigger fights are on the horizon should he be victorious this weekend.

“With possible fights and stuff, there are bigger fights that UFC discussed with us,” Holloway said on The MMA Hour. “I’ve got a win over the 155 champ [Charles Oliveira] right now. We’re always on the shortlist for Conor and like I said before we got injured, we were one of the replacement fighters.

“Yeah you know at the end of the day, obviously Conor wants Dustin or he wants Nate or whatever but anyone at 45 or 55 after those guys, my name pops up.” (Transcribed by Mirror Fighting)

Max Holloway & Conor McGregor Previously Talked Up Their Rematch

This follows some friendly back and forth between the pair since McGregor’s UFC return back in January. McGregor had spotted Holloway, skateboarding past the window during his interview with UFC Arabia. After which McGregor stated, “I tell you what, Max had a great fight [Holloway v Kattar] and he’s in the pipeline for sure, me and Max will do it again.”

Most recently the back forth on Twitter, after McGregor posted a photo of the two first facing off 2013. Holloway replied “we got it. March.”

Holloway and McGregor originally faced off eight years ago and ‘Notorious’ suffered a torn ACL but managed to grapple his way to a unanimous decision win. Since the bout, both men secured their place as two of the greatest featherweights of all time.

McGregor has stated that he is eyeing a 2022 return after suffering a broken leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Holloway appears set for a trilogy fight with Alexander Volkanovski for featherweight gold, although it appears he may have his sights sets on much more lucrative fights if he gets by Rodriguez on Saturday.
