Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar official as UFC 218 headliner

Max Holloway will defend his 145-pound title against former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar in Detroit in early December.

Frankie Edgar is getting the shot he’s been asking for. The former UFC lightweight champion and multiple-time featherweight title challenger has seen some upheaval at 145 since he last had a shot, and his winning ways (along with a new champion) have put him back in line again. He will meet Max Holloway at UFC 218, according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN:

Edgar (22-5-1, 16-5-1 UFC) lost a unanimous decision to Jose Aldo in his last title shot at UFC 200, but has picked up two dominant victories since then over Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez.

Holloway (18-3, 14-3 UFC) has reeled off eleven straight wins, defeating Anthony Pettis by stoppage to win an interim featherweight title, then taking out Aldo by third-round TKO at UFC 212 in Brazil to claim the unified title.

The two men will top the December 2nd card in the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Other bouts announced for the card include a heavyweight tilt between Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou, along with the TUF coach battle between Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje.
