While the 15-minute beating Khabib Nurmagomedov put on Edson Barboza at UFC 219 may have put the fear in a lot of top Lightweight contenders, it didn’t have that same affect on Max Holloway.
The current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight champion of the world recently spoke to TMZ Sports and expressed his interested in a future showdown with “The Eagle.”
All a part of cementing his ever-growing legacy.
Oh yeah, for sure (interst in future fight vs Khabib Nurmagomedov). I think Khabib is a beast and that’s the kind of guys you want to fight to cement your legacy. He’s over here making all the greats, all the top guys look average and I want to fight him. People keep telling me, ‘he’s gonna smash you and this and that,’ I’ve heard this before. I have nothing but respect for the guy but at the end of the day if you want to be the best you have to beat the best.”
Max is coming off back-to-back knockout wins over the once-dominate 145-pound king, Jose Aldo, most recently taking him out at UFC 218 (see it). He will look to keep his momentum rolling when he faces off against former 155-pound champion Frankie Edgar at UFC 222 on March 3, 2018, as he looks to extend to his 12-fight win streak.
As for Khabib, he is riding a 25-fight win streak, as he has yet to tasted defeat in his MMA career. Up next for “The Eagle” could be a lightweight title fight, possibly in Russia.
While a fight between Max and Khabib isn’t even close to being on UFC’s radar at the moment, it’s good to know at least one half of the party is willing to throw down for future consideration.
