Bellator 202 “Budd vs Nogueira” took place July 13, 2018 at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla. The co-main event featured a vicious knockout by Michael ‘Mayday’ McDonald, after which he was sure that he had broken his hand AGAIN.
Bellator 202 “Budd vs. Nogueira” took place July 13, 2018 at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The main event saw Julia Budd defend her Featherweight title with a third round TKO against the previously undefeated Talita Nogueira.
The co-main event also featured fireworks as former Bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas looked to get back on track against former UFC star Michael McDonald. That did not happen though as Dantas got crushed by a right hand, then screwed up his ankle falling down from the blow, leaving himself defenseless for what was officially a knockout at 58 seconds of round one.
McDonald didn’t escape unscathed either and unfortunately that comes as no surprise given “Mayday” vowed to throw lighter punches to not break his right hand again. He didn’t — he broke his left hand instead. In the post-fight interview, he seemed concerned about his future going forward.
“You know man, I broke my left hand, I can feel it, I broke my hand,” he said. “I hit a little too hard for my body frame. I don’t know how long I can do this if I keep breaking my body in every fight.”
Fortunately after a visit to the doctor, McDonald got some better than expected news. The break is confirmed but if there’s such a thing as a “good break” he got it.
Some good news for now. Thank you @BellatorMMA for the amazing hospitality during this process. pic.twitter.com/6XTpnIlByW

In a couple of months McDonald should know if the “no surgery” option worked out, which in theory at least means he could be fighting again before the end of the year.
