Mayweather attempted to bet $400,000 on himself to knock out McGregor but wasn’t allowed to

Floyd Mayweather would have made a few more bucks on his win over Conor McGregor, but a sportsbook wouldn’t let him bet on himself.

It is expected that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will walk away with at least 300 million dollars for his 10th-round TKO win over Conor McGregor last night in Las Vegas. But that didn’t stop him from trying to make a little more – by betting on himself.

According to ESPN, Mayweather went to the M Resort sportsbook at around 3:30pm PT (a half hour before the undercard started on Fox) and attempted to put $400,000 on the fight ending in under 9.5 rounds at -200. There was a problem with that though – in Nevada a combatant is allowed to bet on themselves, but usually only on a straight win. No props.

The casino tried to figure out if they could legally take the bet while Floyd waited. He then tried to put the money on himself winning by knocking instead, but they didn’t know whether they could take that either. He was getting annoyed at the delay and walked out without placing the bet.

Floyd confirmed that they wouldn’t let him place the bet when talking to ESPN after the fight, but did get some bets in via one of his people:

“I think that we bet 100 (thousand) on 9½. I gave my guy six figures to go bet. I have to make sure he bet because earlier today I went to the sports book to bet and they wouldn’t let me bet.”

He also said later that he gave a friend $400,000 to place the bets, but the friend was only allowed to place an $87,000 dollar wager.

Obviously Floyd would have won the knockout bet, but he also would have won the inside 9.5 rounds bet as well if it was placed – he finished the fight at the 1:05 mark of the 10th.
