Putin was all smiles as he got a fist pose picture with McGregor during the France vs. Croatia World Cup final in Moscow.
In case you weren’t aware, both Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov found themselves in Moscow, Russia on Sunday for the World Cup final between France and Croatia. And while McGregor didn’t end up running into Khabib, he did run into another famous Russian strongman: president Vladimir Putin.
Putin is obviously a controversial figure, with his detractors calling him little more than a dictator that is angling to destroy western civilization as we know it. His supporters agree he’s tough, but argue that’s what the country needs to stay strong amidst decades of American aggression since the Soviet Union collapsed. We’re just an MMA website, so you shouldn’t be looking at us to tell you what’s what.
Instead, let Conor McGregor share his opinion, which will either anger or delight you.
”Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin,” McGregor wrote on Instagram.” This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honored to attend such a landmark event alongside him. Today was an honor for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup.”
Sadly for those hoping McGregor’s trip to Russia might signal the announcement of a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, no such declarations were made. McGregor is also still keeping silent regarding reports that he’s got another child on the way.
