Conor McGregor, stealer of thunder, is at it again.

Kamaru Usman filed one of his most impressive victories to date with a thunderous KO of Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 261. In doing so, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ continued to banish thoughts that he was a just a boring wrestler.

In defending his UFC welterweight title Usman scored his third stoppage from strikes in four outings. He TKO’d Gilbert Burns in February and TKO’d Colby Covington back in 2019. He now has 9 KO/TKO on his career.

Usman and his coaches of course deserve all the credit for his landmark victory last night. However, Conor McGregor would have you believe otherwise.

The man who is notorious for trying to steal other people’s thunder hopped onto Instagram last night with a claim that Usman somehow copied him. To back-up his claim McGregor included a video from his losing effort versus Dustin Poirier from UFC 257 (a fight he lost by TKO).

Usman even copying my shots now. Am I to fight this guy at some stage? I think so. Can’t be copying my words and my shots and not get a smack for it. I like 170. It’s mine soon.

In addition to claiming Usman was copying his shots, McGregor also made the bold claim that he would soon be the UFC’s welterweight champion. McGregor doubled down on those claims on twitter, saying he would spend the rest of 2021 at 155 lbs and then go up and challenge Usman at 170 lbs.

McGregor is due to face Poirier in a trilogy fight at UFC 264 on July 10. That fight will be at lightweight. McGregor’s current record at welterweight is 1-1 with both those fights coming against Nate Diaz.

Though it’s highly unlikely Usman copied McGregor, we know about one fella who did (and got caught for it).
