Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White gave the mixed martial arts (MMA) media a little speech the other day about lightweight champion Conor McGregor understanding why the promotion will be forced to strip him of the 155-pound strap.

I guess “Notorious” had a change of heart.

Either that, or the part-time pugilist decided it would be better for his brand if he defied the decree and held onto it anyway, despite the doomsday clock that strikes midnight this weekend in “The Empire State.”

The inactive McGregor has not competed inside the Octagon since thrashing Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in late 2016, paving the way for Tony Ferguson Max Holloway and Khabib Nurmagomedov to collide for the division title.

The moment of truth arrives in the UFC 223 pay-per-view (PPV) main event this Saturday night (April 7, 2018) inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, where McGregor may or may not be in attendance.
