Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is all set to kick off its 2020 campaign, and it’s doing it on the back of its biggest box office star ever.
Conor McGregor will make his long-awaited return to action at the upcoming UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Jan. 18, 2020 to face Donald Cerrone in Las Vegas, Nevada on ESPN+. With only two weeks left until fight night, the Endeavor-owned company is ramping up it promotion for the already-sold out event with a new promo video.
The Welterweight matchup will have major championship implications, though it won’t necessarily affect the 170-pound picture. That’s because Conor could be in line for a shot at the Lightweight strap should he defeat Cerrone. If all the cards fall into place, according to Dana White, “Notorious” would face Khabib Nurmagomedov in a much-desired rematch.
Of course, Tony Ferguson and “Cowboy” are all about playing spoiler.
Furthermore, should McGregor defeat Cerrone, he will be on standby to replace either Khabib or Ferguson should either of them have to withdraw from their scheduled title fight at UFC 249 on April 18, 2020. And if any fight needs a backup plan, it’s this one.
