Professional Fighters League’s (PFL) upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) event on Oct. 19, 2024 — which is set to go down in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — just added it’s latest big fight to the still-growing card.
Per a press release, former Bellator MMA Featherweight champion, A.J. McKee, will take on Paul Hughes in a main card Lightweight battle. McKee is currently on a hot streak of four straight wins and was last seen defeating PFL’s Clay Collard at the “PFL vs. Bellator” mega event earlier this year via first-round submission (see it here). That was “The Mercenary’s” fourth straight win since making the jump up to 155 pounds following his loss to Patricio Pitbull at Bellator 277.
As for Hughes, he made an impressive debut earlier this year by defeating Bobby King via second-round technical knockout (TKO) at Bellator Dublin shortly after PFL snatched him up and signed him to a long-term deal. Hughes was a highly-touted prospect coming out of Cage Warriors, and PFL was able to beat UFC to the punch to land his services.
Now, “Big News” will attempt to really make a statement in his PFL debut by becoming only the second man to ever defeat McKee, all while handing him his first-ever loss at 155 pounds. For McKee, stopping Hughes’ six-fight win streak and current hype will be a good way to elevate him toward a shot at the title.
The PFL “Battle off the Giants” PPV event will be headlined by a highly-anticipated Heavyweight title fight as division champion, Renan Ferreira, will face off against former UFC 265-pound champion, Francis Ngannou, in what will be “The Predator’s” promotional debut. In the co-main event, Cris Cyborg will return to action to face Larissa Pacheco.
