Melvin Guillard vs. Gesias Cavalcante slated for WSOF 11

Melvin Guillard has a date and opponent set for his World Series of Fighting debut.

A long-time UFC veteran, “The Young Assassin” will make his promotional debut against two-time Hero’s middleweight tournament winner Gesias Cavalcante on July 5, WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz informed MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani on Friday.

WSOF 11 takes place on July 5, but the city and the venue are yet to be determined. A lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje vs. Nick Newell headlines the card.

Recently released by the UFC, Guillard (31–13–2, 2 no-contests) makes his first appearance outside the promotion since 2008. With 20 finishes under his belt, the lightweight has beaten the likes of Dennis Siver, Evan Dunham and Jeremy Stephens in his 12-9 (1) run in the UFC.

Cavalcante (18-7-1, 2 no-contests) entered the bout after a third-round TKO finish over UFC veteran Tyson Griffin at WSOF 4, moving to 2-1 in the promotion with a 63-second submission victory over TJ O’Brien in 2012. His only loss under the WSOF banner came against Gaethje.
