Michael Bisping: ‘I beat the s–t out’ of Luke Rockhold and he hasn’t been seen since

Michael Bisping thinks he might have made Luke Rockhold reconsider his career since UFC 199.

Michael Bisping scored one of the biggest upsets in MMA history when he knocked out Luke Rockhold to win the middleweight title at UFC 199.

Bisping, who has been considered a high-level gatekeeper throughout most of his UFC career, entered the contest as a massive underdog but shocked the world when he floored Rockhold with a couple of left hooks early in the fight. ‘The Count’ followed up with ground and pound and knocked Rockhold unconscious, forcing referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy to intervene at just 3:36 of the first round.

Since then, Bisping has defended his title against Dan Henderson and is expected to take on Yoel Romero or Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza later in the year.

Rockhold, though, hasn’t fought since last June and Bisping thinks he might have ‘took his soul’ at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

“What is Luke Rockhold doing?” Bisping said on The MMA Hour, per MMA Fighting’s Shaun Al-Shatti. “When did he say he’s going to fight again? What are his plans? I do believe we are now almost in March. That fight was in June. I don’t know what happened there, but I think I took his soul. I don’t think we’ll ever see Luke Rockhold again. I beat the sh*t out of him. I don’t know, I think he’s done. The way he went down, I think so. Why hasn’t he fought again?

“A lot of time has passed. If that were me, I would’ve been right back in there.”

Rockhold, who has been doing some modelling work while nursing a knee injury, expects to return in the summer.

Bisping, 37, made fun of Rockhold’s current situation and questioned his championship spirit.

“So it’s not bad enough that he needs surgery, but he needs, what, he needs nine months to go travel the world and be a playboy?” Bisping said. “That doesn’t sound like a man who wants to be champion again to me.”

With Rockhold absent, Bisping’s second title defense is expected to be against Romero or Souza, but oddsmakers list the newly-returned Georges St-Pierre as his next most likely opponent.
