A title shot always seems to evade Michael Bisping.
But after nearly 10 years and 22 fights with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), “The Count” hopes a win over Anderson Silva at UFC Fight Night 83 on Feb. 27, 2016 in London, England, will finally get him to the big dance.
As he recently declared on his Sirius XM show, “The Countdown,” Bisping says he hopes destroying “The Spider” will be enough to get him a much-desired championship fight.
His words via MMA Junkie:
“I’m going to destroy Anderson Silva; I’m telling you right now. My camp’s going the best it’s ever been. I’m performing better. Mentally, I’m way better than I’ve ever been, and I’m going to destroy this guy. Then after that I’m going to get the people of London to cheer and make some goddamn noise and demand that I get a title shot.”
Of course, should he complete phase one of his plan, a rematch against Luke Rockhold would await Bisping if a title shot is awarded. And that’s perfect for “The Count,” as he wants some get-back on Luke for headbutting him in their initial encounter over a year ago.
“I do believe that Luke Rockhold is going to be in the building when I fight Anderson Silva. Luke Rockhold and I have some unfinished business. He head-butted me in the first round. That’s what I’m looking for. Will the UFC give it to me? Probably not, but I’m going to try. I’m going to try.”
Luke went on to defeat Bisping via second-round submission (guillotine) in round number two at UFC Fight Night 55.
Of course, getting a do-over will be easier said than done, as Silva himself has his own dreams of a title fight in order to reclaim the strap he held for four years before dropping it to Chris Weidman in 2013.
Anyone think Bisping can go two-for two against Silva and Rockhold?
