Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Jon Jones has an argument as the greatest fighter of all time, but he also ranks highly among those best at inserting his own foot into his mouth.
Last night, Jones responded to a tweet from Tony Ferguson. In fairness, Jones did not start this beef, as Ferguson was strangely calling out Jones and accusing him of talking trash. However, Jones seemingly hit below the belt by asking if Ferguson was “feeling suicidal”— a poor choice of words given Ferguson’s still-recent mental health issues.
The Tweet was deleted, but in the current Internet age, a screenshot will always end up on Reddit.
Not long after, Jones explained via further Tweets that he did not know about Ferguson’s mental health issues. He’s since deleted those Tweets too, but once again, a screenshot exists thanks to MMAJunkie.
There is a fair chance that Jones really did not know about Ferguson’s issues, as plenty of fighters chose not to follow the sport that closely. The comment would make sense solely as trash talk given the massive size disparity between the two. At the same time, it’s an incident that is entirely unnecessary — why seriously respond to a Lightweight in the first place?
