Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Unfortunately, the search for Walt Harris’ missing step-daughter continues without any positive news. Quite understandably, Harris has pulled out of his upcoming main event slot opposite Alistair Overeem (45-17-1), which was slated to take place December 7, 2019 at UFC on ESPN 7 inside the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Just about one month away from the event, Surinamese wrecking machine Jairzinho Rozenstruik (9-0) has agreed to fill-in for “The Big Ticket.” Rozenstruik just knocked out Andrei Arlovski last Saturday night (Nov. 2, 2019) at UFC 244, but given that the whole ordeal lasted less than 30 seconds, the longtime professional kickboxer is ready for another walk to the Octagon. The Arlovski knockout was Rozenstruick’s third-straight UFC win, and each victory has come via knockout.

Meanwhile, Overeem has won his last two bouts via stoppage as well, pounding out both Sergei Pavlovich and Alexey Oleinik. Overeem is currently ranked as the sixth best Heavyweight in the world, whereas Rozenstruik has not yet broken into the top 15. As such, it’s a rather risky fight for “The Reem,” as Rozenstruick seems very much like the real deal.

Who ya’ got?

Insomnia

Jorge Masvidal does not appreciate the “Diaz would’ve taken over late!” idea that is circulating the web.

Some really insightful details on facial lacerations and whether or not a fight will be stopped:

Facial Lacerations in Combat Sports: Part 2 ••••••••••••••••••••• When will a ringside physician stop a fight? Dr. Larry Lovelace, DO developed a quick guide of the face seperated into 9 zones that may become problematic if an injury occurs during a bout. . Zones 1 and 2: Require the bout to be ended •Zone 1: Tarsal plate, Lacrimal Sac (eyelid / tear duct respectively). Both of these areas are very difficult to repair and require an immediate stop of the fight. •Zone 2: Vermillion Border: This area is very difficult to repair and may require extensive plastic surgery to fix. * Dr. Lovelace did indicate that in a “big money” bout he may let the fight continue, but with smaller paydays he would stop it. . Zones 3-9: These areas require careful evaluation because the sensitive structures of the face are deep. Superficial lacerations may be allowed to continue but deep lacerations have the chance to cause nerve / circulation damage. . Return to play criteria following a laceration: Lacerations often require careful suturing and may even require plastic surgery. If a cut is left untreated or poorly managed it is likely that the laceration will scar. Scar tissue can be considered as unorganized, weak tissue that is easily re-damaged. This may become a problem for fighters as they will get cut much easier in future bouts. Remodeling / Maturation of tissue can take >1 year to resume full tissue strength. . Ringside physician guidelines recommend 4-6 weeks of healing post-suture before returning to sparring. 12 weeks post-suture to return to full-contact sparring without headgear. . I have to agree with the Twitter replies and say this accident looks distinctly Lovecraftian.

Midnight Music: Hip-hop classic “Bombs Over Baghdad” from the legendary duo OutKast unexpectedly blasted in both of the gyms I worked out in today. I can’t remember the last time in played in either gym, so this seemed like a surefire sign from the heavens that it was meant to be tonight’s song of choice!
