Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight …
Welcome, to Midnight Mania! Tonight, we’ve got the preliminary pay-per-view (PPV) numbers for Canelo-Chavez, which was huge, Daniel Cormier speculating on his chances against Anthony Joshua, Diaz-McGregor 2 winning an Emmy, UFC 211 hype videos, and much more.
Meanwhile in boxing …
Pugilism is far from dead. Dan Rafael of ESPN reports that Canelo Chavez did more than a million buys in America. This doubtless had much to do with the appeal of both Canelo Alvarez and Chavez among their Mexican fanbase residing in the US.
No official numbers yet for #CaneloChavez PPV but I’m told it will be at least 1 million buys. A huge number for the fight. #boxing

This is a huge improvement from Canelo’s previous two Pay-Per-Views (PPVs), which sold 300K and up to 600K, respectively, according to BloodyElbow.com. The fight itself was not competetive, with Canelo beating Chavez from pillar to post (see highlights here). However, it does garner increased interest in Canelo-Golovkin, which was announced in the ring after this fight. That match, in which Gennady Golovkin is the slight favorite, should prove the biggest boxing has seen in years- unless, of course, McGregor-Mayweather gets made. Dana White says he’s getting ready to walk away from the deal.
With Anthony Joshua also getting his breakout moment last weekend, this has been a banner month for boxing’s breakout stars.
Bobs and Weaves
Daniel Cormier admits he isn’t a professional boxer. If only all mixed martial arts (MMA) stars were so forthcoming. Or boxers who stand to gain a lot of money, for that matter.
I would get knocked out so fast!!! All of us would in a BOXING match. We CANT outbox these dudes in straight boxing matches man. https://t.co/Zk8aJx0aPx

So, I guess Sean O’Malley got the technique for his awesome KO from watching McGregor videos while high. That’s peak MMA.
I got this technique from watching a @TheNotoriousMMA video when I was high. Rear head kick to rear spin kick up against the cage . pic.twitter.com/jwM0fyb4qm

I happened to tune into this fight live and it was all the violence you ever wanted to see … and then some.
