Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Simultaneous knockdowns are rare, but they do happen. When both fighters step forward with the intent to land, sometimes, their punches actually do connect at the exact same time! In MMA, there was a notable instance in 2017 when Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione connected with power punches at the same time, though Mitrione was able to recover first and pounce on the wounded veteran.
I can’t say I’ve ever seen two men trade elbow strikes like this though! This Muay Thai bout in São Luis, Brazil saw both men go down due to a hard up elbow and hard cross elbow landed simultaneously, but one was able to stand up and claim the victory.
Insomnia
Did Jon Jones win last weekend without fighting?
It’s looking to me like Aspen Ladd’s future is definitely at 145 lbs.
Gordon Ryan is the king of jiu-jitsu and hilarious pettiness.
Some of y’all like Joe Rogan a little too much.
And just like that, a new unit of time measurement was born:
MMA fighters love weird balance and coordination drills.
Don’t get caught off-guard:
Slips, rips, and KO clips
Courtesy of Megaton, I have a few cool finishes in the saved pile from last week. Let’s revisit:

Rarely do submission wins feature such an audible smack of face vs. canvas.

When’s the last time you saw a finish via straight ankle lock? I can only think of one in UFC history: Andrei Arlovski dropped Tim Sylvia before cranking on his foot to secure the title. Am I missing any?

Random Land
All that’s keeping me from replicating this is a shortage of funds, complete lack of know-how, and the rising price of gas. Super cool though!
Midnight Music: My girlfriend must really want an “A” on her Anatomy/Physiology exam, because she’s listening to classical music while studying. I know next to nothing on the topic (other than Glenn Gould’s Bach: The Gouldberg Variations), so hit me with your recommendations in the comments below!
Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
