Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Well, that didn’t take long.

Last night, Conor McGregor took to Twitter to call for a showdown with former Lightweight champ Frankie Edgar. McGregor seemed serious, even offering to donate his purse to charity. Edgar was interested as well, though he noted that it was on UFC president Dana White and McGregor to negotiate and turn the potential bout into reality.

White shut it down almost immediately. In an interview earlier today with Boston Herald, White explained why he didn’t like the bout (transcription via MMAJunkie): “Edgar is two weight classes below him. He was supposed to fight Aljamain Sterling. Aljamain fell out and got hurt. Frankie is coming to the end of his career, and he could end up getting himself into a title position again. To take the Conor fight makes no sense.”

Unfortunately, there still isn’t a ton of info available on McGregor’s next fight. White believes that McGregor will fight next year, but otherwise he offered no details. However, there are certainly plenty of options.

Insomnia

Colby Covington and his “bedroom cardio” are now sponsored by Bang Energy Drink. That seems like a pretty big deal and good sign for Covington’s popularity, as Bang is perhaps the most popular sport/energy drink hybrid on the market right now. As an athlete and writer, I fully embrace Bang and the heart attack it will eventually give me.

Personally, I find that Israel Adesanya’s trash talk can grow a bit tiresome, but Jon Jones is such an easy target that it’s working really well right now.

Physique isn’t everything … but it is something.

Leslie Smith with the KO:

Lance Palmer is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met and always has a goofy smile on his way (and usually a dick joke on his mind), which makes this Smash edit fittingly fun.

Punch science is always a bit wonky, but I don’t need an engineering degree to promise you that Weili Zhang punches pretty damn hard.

Speaking of hitting hard, watch Liam Harrison unleash on some pads:

Slips, rips, and KO clips

Dominick Reyes makes excellent use of the Southpaw double threat, and his UFC debut was a perfect example of the kick setting up the cross:

Issei Tamura lost to Raphael Assuncao and TJ Dillashaw and was subsequently cut from the UFC roster. That’s some bad luck!

Maycee Barber will attempt to brutalize Gillian Robertson in similar fashion tomorrow night!

Midnight Music: Anyone else bitterly remember the time before The Weeknd became one of the world’s biggest pop stars? I don’t necessarily hate his newer sound, but man, his music was great in 2011.

Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
