Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every night
Welcome to Midnight Mania! Tonight we’ve got Derrick Lewis adding insult to injury, Mario Yamasaki and new commentator Todd Grisham coming under criticism, Conor McGregor working the bag, knockouts, memes, artwork, podcasts and much more.
Insomnia
The Black Beast will not let up. Knocking Travis Browne out and calling for his girl was not enough, he has to roast Browne on social media. When you believe the rumors about the domestic violence allegations against Browne, as Derrick Lewis does, perhpas you feel justified in posting this:
Lewis wasn’t the only one. The memes were everywhere, and they were brutal.
What is next for Travis Browne after this Fight of the Night loss?
My personal favorite was this replay of the final moments, with Edmond Tarverdyan’s voice overlayed on the track:
Lewis wasn’t the only one posting. Matt Mitrione, fresh off of passing gallstones that took him out of his Fight for Fedor’s Sweater, retweeted this old highlight:
People seem to forget @mattmitrione Mack Trucked Derrick Lewis into oblivion pic.twitter.com/HVN53KyKi5

What is next for the Black Beast, whose continued evolution has led him to six straight wins?
Bobs and Weaves
Literal bobs and weaves from Conor McGregor, who Freddie Roach is claiming Mayweather advised him to train.
I was impressed overall by new UFC commentator Todd Grisham performed in his first UFC commentary role, but I missed this:
Rewatching Browne-Lewis … Todd Grisham yelling “Get out of there, Travis!” when Browne was in trouble was pretty bad.

Perhaps that’s why Rogan seemed to have some criticisms:

Speaking of criticisms, Mario Yamasaki came under fire for letting Travis Browne take way too many punches before finally stepping in.
Even kickboxer Joseph Valtellini took advantage to advertise his brand.
If u need something to do until Yamasaki stops the Browne fight check out Lesson 4 of my kickboxing master class https://t.co/MZ0QEjsA3V

Mario Yamasaki is the last person to board on my flight out of Halifax to Toronto. I guess being late is a theme for him.

This must have been awkward:
Other things from this plane: Carla Esparza and Randa Markos are seated across the isle from each other. What are the chances? #awkward

Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is getting work in with the Serra-Longo gym:
The scuttlebutt is that Stipe faces Junior dos Santos in a rematch at UFC 211 in Dallas. Junior Dos Santos, meanwhile, is talking about a fourth fight with Cain Velasquez. Please, please, please… no.

At least Elias has a sense of humor about these things. At least he squeaked out a win, after all.
Happy to see the new eye poking rules are being enforced… 🙂 Regardless, no excuses, fight like a champion! #ufcHalifax pic.twitter.com/Y9YOmy6gt1

I remember this head-body sequence from watching The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Cristian Bale. I had never seen the source KO by Mickey Ward:
Micky Ward had lost all 6 rounds & had been dropped by Alfonso Sanchez. What happened next left the commentary team in absolute disbelief
