Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is using his two-year suspension from USADA as a chance to finally take care of long-term injuries. He just had surgery on his right shoulder, and he posted on Instagram that two months from now, he will be getting surgery on his left.
Battle scars added to my hawk. Surgery went well, torn rotator cuff, labrum and some biceps tendon repair. Two months from now I’m getting my left shoulder done, it’s the worst of the two. The recovery time is long and sucks but it will be nice to have them finally fixed. Been needing these surgeries for three years now.
In the comments, someone suggested maybe not posting for awhile, because ‘all the haters’ would have a field day. Dillashaw replied,
let em I made the mistake. If talking to someone like that is what makes them feel better that’s on them.
Dillashaw tested positive for EPO, a performance-enhancing substance that helps athletes increase their stamina. EPO can not be taken orally, ruling out the possibility of a tainted supplement. USADA then retested some of his old samples and one of those came back positive for EPO as well. He faced a lot of backlash, particularly from former opponents like Cody Garbrandt and Henry Cejudo. His strength and conditioning coach released a ridiculous statement that has to be read to be believed. Dominick Cruz says that Dillashaw will return better than ever, having had a chance to heal up and spend time with his family. It’s too early to tell, but Cruz’s prediction may prove to be the most accurate.

He doesn’t want to get paid peanuts for it, though, as Chael Sonnen found out.
