Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Tara LaRosa, a professional fighter for Invicta FC, joined the #MeToo campaign, where females share stories of sexual assault or harassment to raise awareness as to how common a phenomenon it is. Some estimates report that 1 out of 6 women experience a rape or attempted rape. The rate for sexual violence is much higher than that, though, with some sites reporting that nearly half of all women experience some form of sexual violence in their lives.
Tara’s story is a creepy one: a doctor insisted on giving her a “breast exam” before her Invicta FC 9 bout against Roxanne Modafferi. This isn’t a normal part of pre-fight medicals in any other state. She argued with him for half an hour, and he said if he wasn’t permitted to do the exam, she wouldn’t fight. Erik Magraken, lawyer and the founder of CombatSports.net, did some research, and nothing in the Massachusetts Athletic Commission regulations requires a breast exam. He writes:
While a physician does have broad discretion nowhere is a mandatory breast exam mentioned. The ‘special in-depth‘ exam is only triggered if there are ‘symptoms of ill health or physical impairment‘. It is hard to imagine how, absent compelling circumstances, a breast exam could be part of the pre-fight physical examination.
In other words, there was no justification for this. Given that the doctor insisted he had been doing this for years, the Massachusetts Athletic Commission has some questions to answer.
#METOO B4 my 2nd fight w/ @Roxyfighter in MA the doctor insisted on personally doing a “breast exam” as part of the pre fight physical…

#METOO …a breast exam is done in NO other state. When I protested, he said I can either let him do it, or not fight. Massachusetts

The MA commission appointed doctor. He said he’s been doing it for yrs. I‘d have gladly gotten a mammogram 4pre fight medicals if I’d known. https://t.co/zRocAl4JHZ

UFC fighter Roxanne Modafferi confirmed the story:

Insomnia
Artem Lobov, Conor McGregor’s longtime teammate, seems sure that Conor McGregor will fight Tony Ferguson next.
“Now that that’s [Mayweather vs. McGregor’s] over, well now he’s back to defending his belt,” Lobov told Bryant. “In my eyes, of course he’s going to fight Tony. Why wouldn’t he fight Tony? His belt is on the line. Some guy has this fake belt around his waist. Conor wants to just take that away by all means.
“So in my eyes, 100 percent he’s going to fight Tony. Who else is he going to fight? Why wouldn’t he fight Tony? Why wouldn’t he defend that belt? That belt means a lot to Conor. He’s dreamed since a very, very long time ago of having that belt, so… it’s going to be damn, damn hard to try and take that belt from him. He’s going to be defending that belt for a long time.”

A recent study found that consciousness lingers long after death, long after the heart stops and brainwaves cease. That’s right. Dead people know they are dead.
