Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Equal parts heartwarming and strange, another excellent story regarding top UFC Lightweight and former interim champion Tony Ferguson has emerged.
Per ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Tony Ferguson took the time out of his day to FaceTime call with a Make-A-Wish child. For any readers unaware, the Make-A-Wish foundation aims to “grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a critical illness.” These wishes can range from a trip to Disney World to meeting Spiderman, but a common selection is also a visit with a professional athlete of their choice.
“A few weeks ago I got a random text from someone who works for Make-A-Wish,” Helwani tweeted. “They had a kid whose favorite athlete is @TonyFergusonXT. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, they can’t set up travel these days so they were hoping to simply set up a FaceTime chat with Tony and the boy.”
“Well, a few weeks later they finally connected. But they didn’t just chat. Tony put the young man through a virtual workout this week via FaceTime, and it lasted over an hour. Good many Tony.”
Ferguson also shared a picture with Chris on Instagram.
This is such a classic Tony moment. It’s obviously awesome that he was willing to take the time out of his day to talk with an ailing youth, but who else would think to put an ill person through a workout? Is this doctor approved?
Still, this kids favorite athlete is Tony Ferguson. He knew what he was getting into and probably loved it! You don’t request to meet “El Cucuy” unless you’re fully willing to kick metal pipes or ankle pick random members of the public. Champ shit only!

I’m glad that quarantine hairdos are still a thing even as the country reopens.

On another note, I always respect fighters (and people in general) who can laugh at themselves.

With a new uniform deal likely to be announced in the coming months, does anything think fighters will see increased benefits or have a say? Maybe even a small individual sponsorship patch, similar to PFL?
Reebok is gone. We the fighters need to have a say in the next deal #supernecessary

RIP to Panamanian boxing champ Ernseto Marcel.
Today, one of our staff’s favorite boxers passed away. Ernesto Marcel was a beautiful fighter who faced the likes of Roberto Durán and Alexis Argüello. Rest in peace Ñato. pic.twitter.com/VnqLZrUcLY

Poor guy has one leg injured from a check, then the other kicked from underneath him.

If you’re going to bridge and freak out to escape mount, it’s important to fully commit. Getting stuck halfway is bad news!

A bit of animation fun!
Midnight Music: I post once about Orville Peck months ago when I first listened to his debut album Pony, but over the past couple days, I’ve been really digging the Canadian country singer. Here’s one of his recent tracks:
