Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
If Khabib Nurmagomedov has made anything clear in the last year or two, it’s that he has a very specific vision for his career. More and more, it seems like retirement is coming sooner than later for “The Eagle,” specifically is he’s able to achieve the milestone of 30-0. However, one goal that has never left Nurmagomedov’s mind is a showdown with Welterweight great Georges St. Pierre at 155 lbs.
Earlier today, St. Pierre posted on Instagram about sushi after fasting for three days. “Rush” does look a bit leaner than usual, and Nurmagomedov took note, replying to the post with the simple question,“155?”
St. Pierre’s coach Firas Zahabi may believe that the opportunity for this bout has passed, but clearly Nurmagomedov is still interested and motivated to make a fight with “GSP” happen. If he’s able to dispatch Tony Ferguson in his next bout, I don’t know that anyone could argue against a showdown with St. Pierre as the potential 30th pro bout of Nurmagomedov’s career.
Insomnia
Is the power of “Pyrite and all of its protective vibrations” the reason for Cannonier’s recent success? I would probably guess that it’s more due to his ability to punch people in the face really, really hard, but that’s only my opinion.
This might be my favorite random video from Derrick Lewis yet. Great problem solving!
For my gun AND Valentina nerds:
Elk-fueled neck gains:
“Stylebender” arrives in, uhh, style?
A gorgeous butterfly sweep from Gordon Ryan’s killer ADCC run:
Slips, rips, and KO clips
Aside from Ryan dominating the field, the biggest story to emerge from ADCC this year was Giles Lachlan’s run in the absolute division. A competitor in the 77 kg. division who was knocked off in the first round, Lachlan heel-hooked his way to the podium against much larger men. Size does matter in jiu-jitsu (don’t believe otherwise), but technique is still king!
Stuck between the ring and the point of an elbow is a bad, bad place to be…
Should this bout have been stopped? Probably, but a comeback is a comeback!
Random Land
This is a cooler use of drones than getting paper towels delivered from Amazon.
Midnight Music: Fun fact about Donovan’s Sunshine Superman: Jimmy Page and Jon Paul Jones play on the title track. It also contains the more overt references to acid than most US No. 1 singles of its time.
Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
