Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Per ESPN, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Bantamweight champion, Holly Holm, will return to action opposite Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner Julianna Pena on May 8, 2020 at a UFC Fight Night event in a yet to be disclosed location.
Holm is pursuing yet another title shot, but “The Preacher’s Daughter” has impressed since her 2019 loss to Amanda Nunes. Last year, she picked up a pair of clear-cut decision wins over Raquel Pennington and Irene Aldana. The second victory was particularly impressive, as Holm battered the up-and-coming boxer for the majority of five rounds to reassert herself as a title contender.
Meanwhile, Julianna Pena has won two of her last three bouts. Though she does have a recent loss to top contender Germaine de Randamie, Pena impressed in her last showing, strangling Olympic wrestling silver medalist Sara McMann. She immediately called out Amanda Nunes and accused of her of ducking … which is ridiculous. So while an immediate title shot may not materialize for “Venezualan Vixen,” a high-profile showdown with Holm is likely the next best opportunity.
