Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
In a recent interview with ACA fighter Magomed Ismailov, Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke about several of the names closely associated with his career. He doubted Conor McGregor’s chances of making a real comeback, as “a man can’t have two primes.” He also expressed doubt regarding Tony Ferguson, who Khabib painted as too old to be an elite Lightweight.
Those are two names from his past, however. More recently, the only chance of seeing Nurmagomedov return to the Octagon seems to lie in Georges St. Pierre. Nurmagomedov has long admired “GSP,” and the two have publicly chased a super fight several times over the years.
Finally, Nurmagomedov seems to have fully given up on that bout. “When you say Georges St-Pierre, that name really motivates me,” Khabib said (transcription via MMAFighting). “GSP really makes me excited and so on but it’s all over, brother. He’s 40 years old. Let’s just leave it. For sure we like him as a human being. He is the legend. He is the decent representation of mixed martial arts. Let it be like this, there’s GSP and Khabib.”
With Nurmagomedov himself admitting the St. Pierre fight is dead in the water, the odds of Nurmagomedov returning appear lower than ever. Despite Dana White’s best attempts and several callouts from top contenders, Nurmagomedov is satisfied with his career and accomplishments.
Time to strip that belt?

Derrick Lewis is a ruthless fighter and amazing Instagram follow.
More pro sports should allow settling personal conflict via fisticuffs with relatively mild penalties.
Hockey or martial arts?

A way, way more violent sports crossover. Heads crashing into concrete walls is never good.

On another sad note, Dan Hooker is within eyesight of his family, but he still has some waiting to do before being released from quarantine.

The celebration is 100% more interesting than the finish itself, but all in all, an interesting win is always a good result.

Between the kimura grip transition from back control and the smartly applied grip break (rear naked choke grip at the wrist, lean towards the head), this is a well-executed armbar!
