Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight
Welcome to Midnight Mania! Tonight we have Marcelo Garcia suspending top student and McGregor’s grappling partner Dillon Danis,
Insomnia
Marcelo Garcia, one of the greatest no-gi grapplers ever to compete, has suspended his student Dillon Danis, who trains with Conor McGregor and helps with his grappling coaching. Danis was originally brought in to help McGregor prior to the Diaz rematch. A decorated competitor in his own right, Danis is slated to face Jake Shields in a headlining bout at SUG 4, and also recently signed with Bellator MMA. While his profile has certainly risen since partnering with the brash Irishman, Danis has adopted what many would describe as a knock-off version of McGregor’s schtick. This divisive approach that has alienated some fans and BJJ competitors, a community that often prides themselves on camaraderie and a culture of martial arts-inspired respect.
Garcia, in typical Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor fashion, announced the decision in a long-winded, semi-philosophical speech that fully laid out the reasons behind the decision. See the full video below:

Bobs and Weaves
This is an absolutely fantastic bout. Marlon Moraes vs Raphael Assuncao is a matchup that puts Moraes, the former WSOF bantamweight champion, within touching distance of a title shot if he wins. With charismatic new champion Cody Garbrandt on the throne, and Moraes and Duquesnoy joining the ranks of the division, UFC’s 135 pound weight class looks extremely promising over the next couple years.

I don’t recall exactly when this was, but Jon Jones and Anderson Silva were having a little fun.
Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr and Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh are just shooting the breeze when a fight breaks out right in front of them.
Yoel Romero, or more probably Malki Kawa on his twitter, talking trash at Michael Bisping.

The reason Demetrius Johnson is as good as he is, especially in the clinch, is thanks to Matt Hume

@Grabaka_Hitman He’s landed a greater number of significant clinch strikes than any UFC fighter ever. So, the efficiency and dedication is definitely there.

@Grabaka_Hitman Hume is also responsible for a certain amount of this madness that Tim Beotsch breaks out every now and then. pic.twitter.com/AQilrPshpP

Not sure what the rules are with these big gloves but suplexes and chokes both seem to be legal so I’m down

Quick Hits
- Anthony Johnson has asked in his appeal that Daniel Cormier be stripped of his title for Towelgate.
- Andrew Richardson breaks down Namajunas-Waterson
- Anthony Pettis wants to face Jim Miller in his return to lightweight. Savvy ask from Showtime, as that is a recognizable name he can certainly beat.
