Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Conor McGregor is no stranger to beefing outside of his division, but he usually sticks to fights that at least have a snowball’s chance in hell of happening! Plus, I don’t think we can blame the Irishman for this one, as his random feud with former UFC Heavyweight kingpin Fabricio Werdum began innocently, as McGregor simply requested Bellator up their drug testing program.
It is crazy to think @BellatorMMA still do not have a performance enhancing drug testing system in place. It is long overdue time the promotion adopts a reputable testing body in order to keep it’s clean athletes safe! https://t.co/G4w3vzv7mE
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) October 22, 2020
Somehow, Fabricio Werdum interpreted the above Tweet as a shot at Cris Cyborg, and he immediately went to defend the Bellator champion (while tagging a fan account).
Losers always will try to find excuses. Champions work very hard and don’t distracted by ants. @CyborgsGloves Is a living legend McGregor is filha-da-puta HEY https://t.co/2duYMLwu5m
— Fabricio Werdum (@FabricioWerdum) October 24, 2020
Understandably, McGregor expressed his confusion, seeing as he never mentioned Cyborg in the original tweet. However, when McGregor considered Fabricio Werdum’s own past with USADA, he went on the offensive.
Actually wait! Aren’t you currently banned for steroids right now?
And got your sentenced reduced for ratting other people? And also just recently signed to this promotion I speak of? Woah.
Man, fuck you.
My lord, what a business this is.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) October 24, 2020
The Brazilian was handed a two-year suspension after failing an out-of-competition test for trenbolone, an anabolic steroid. He publicly stated that USADA requested he “snitch,” but he would never do so … only for USADA to eventually reduce his sentence due to information provided.
After McGregor’s insults landed, Werdum explained his side, wrongly believing that Sinead Kavanagh (the original person whose tweet prompted McGregor’s speech on Bellator’s drug testing) had recently fought Cyborg. In fact, that was Arlene Blencowe, a Featherweight from Australia!
They never fought.
I train Sinead. I manage Cris.
Both tremendously gifted warriors.
This is not about either! Or any of the roster for that matter.
It is about the promotion itself stepping up to the plate, as one of the top tier organisations in MMA, and upping its testing.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) October 24, 2020
McGregor routinely says wild things on Twitter that fall apart under close inspection — this is not one of those times! However, McGregor’s past trouble did provide ammo for Werdum.
You shouldn’t manage any female because you cannot be trusted with anybody’s daughter or wife when I see you I’m gonna give you Brazilian‘s slap https://t.co/vJ4L8cbQO1 pic.twitter.com/MdnZqH1Q13

Deron Winn offers some behind-the-scenes info on how UFC handles its weigh-ins.
FYI the @ufc makes you step on the scale in a back room before you go for the official weigh in. You don’t get to step on the official scale unless you’re on weight and especially if you are the first one on the scale ???
— Deron Winn (@DeronWinn) October 23, 2020
If you step on the scale after you are over in the back is either for one of two reasons.
1. You have accepted you are going to miss and take consequences.
2. You are stepping on the scale get your 90 min time allotted for extra cut if initially over on official scale.— Deron Winn (@DeronWinn) October 23, 2020
Funny how quickly Leon Edwards got his ranking back after caving to UFC demands …

Add another one to the “Comprehensive list of UFC fighters, coaches, and cornerman who tested positive for COVID-19.”
Attention friends and colleagues, I was diagnosed with Covid-19 this week and am recovering in the hospital. I want to get the word out, so that anyone who has been in contact with me or others around me can take necessary precautions. Thank you so much, and be safe ??

This thread is very rude, but it also made me laugh.

Lauren Murphy had the best reaction to a weigh-in pump fake:

Slips, rips, and KO clips
These guys both moved kind of strangely at the start, so I was completely unsure which man would go down in 10 seconds!

The camera cut away at precisely the wrong time, but it looks like a rope grab helped set this submission up. Nice triangle though!
