Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Trash talk is common place in the combat sports world, but it rarely goes beyond the surface level insults regarding abilities and masculinity. Conor McGregor, however, has long been one to cross that line in an attempt to enrage his opponents, even doing real background research to hit foes where it hurts.
Though McGregor was quite cordial with Dustin Poirier in the lead up to their second bout, that’s no longer the case. Oddly, a fair portion of McGregor’s trash talk has revolved around Poirier’s wife, Jolie. The Irish combatant posted a DM request from Jolie Poirier and labeled Dustin as “Jolie’s wife” yesterday’s press conference — a pair of insults that “The Diamond” seemed to laugh off.
Given that we’re just hours from the fight itself, one would assume that would be the end of it. However, a shot at McGregor’s hairline prompted a brutal response from the former champion, who had no issue with boldly inserting himself into the Poirier marriage.
Your trash talk is as thin as your hair these days! See ya soon champ champ

Your wife wants to see the hair around my dick and balls bro. See what that’s like. It’s real the message request mate, no trash talk. Man to man, it’s fucked up! I seen your interview with Mike you think it was fake. It’s not.
Have a think on it in the sauna anyway.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) July 9, 2021
“Your wife wants to see the hair around my d*ck and balls bro,” McGregor tweeted. “See what that’s like. It’s real the message request mate, no trash talk. Man to man, it’s f*cked up! I seen your interview with Mike you think it was fake. It’s not. Have a think on it in the sauna anyway.”
In old days, I believe this is the type of implication that would result in a duel. In 2021, we’ll have to settle for a sanctioned cage fight.
Is it still “just business?” Poirier may disagree.
Insomnia
Jessica Rose-Clark is finally cleared to fight again following her ACL surgery, and the women’s Bantamweight division could certainly use her nasty elbows and knees in the mix.
CLEARED.

Assuming Sean O’Malley doesn’t suffer the biggest upset of the year, Ricky Simon as his next opponent sounds electric.
Sean called me and said it’s me that he’s calling out. I hope he doesn’t, I’m really scared. https://t.co/Uvidn1CUig

This reads like a real rough match up for Jared Vanderaa.

I don’t believe it’s ever going to happen, but Rafael dos Anjos vs. McGregor would have been/would be a great fight.
Conor you’re such a snake, sneaking from behind and playing tough. Soon or later we will finish business. I’m not like the guys you play around with.

The return of mystic Khabib, soccer edition!
Ilia Topuria has been oozing confidence ahead of his bout vs. Ryan Hall.
I like Ryan, thats why I am not gonna take much time from him and I will knock him out in the first round

McGregor has made a lot of strange boasts in the lead up to UFC 264, but here’s a genuine one:

If feel bad posting this, but it’s official: Carlos Condit’s takedown defense is historically bad.

Midnight Music: Vince Staples released his latest LP today, a self-titled record consisting of his usual serious, monotone style of rapping for roughly 20 minutes. The chopped up soul samples were a new sound for the Californian, but mostly, it was par for the course.
Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
