Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight
Welcome to Midnight Mania!
I really have nothing to add to the following, except that I’m angry at this whole sport and another entire sports-entertainment industry I don’t even cover for making me watch it.
So my streak of good luck continues thanks to the @BellaTwins … Nikki there are no more restrictions on my diet , let the wine flow , the moves fly , & our championship belts Unify … do you smell what The Messenger is cooking . ??? @ufc @espnmma @BellaTwins @WWE pic.twitter.com/jzArQsXrlK

The backstory here is that Henry Cejudo went on Ariel Helwani’s show and admitted he had a huge crush on Nikki Bella. For some reason she responded to Henry Cejudo… favorably… Always shoot your shot, I guess. You never know. That has to be the lesson here, right? Other than maybe don’t flirt online like this where other people might see it. Please. Please.
I can’t decide which is worse, her video or his response. He’s even worse at ripping off the Rock than he is at… whatever this was. I also can’t tell if Bella is serious, or just doing this for clicks. Otherwise, why make a public video? Why subject us to this? This kind of flirting might work in the DMs… but not when all of us can see it, unless of course, that’s the point.
This is Cejudo and Nikki Bella; this is what they are putting us through, and the rest of us are the guy at the end.
I’ve watched this a thousand times and it just keeps getting funnier. pic.twitter.com/83imPv1lS1

Insomnia
Sometimes an athlete in combat sports pulls off something so spectacular that you have to watch it a few times to really take it in. Fortunately, that’s exactly what the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) was invented for.

I humbly submit that we can have both USADA and Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Costa

This guy held two fully grown men like it was nothing. I’m the last person to have pro wrestling opinions, but since I’m on a Sumo kick, why don’t we see more Sumo or ex-Sumo guys in pro wrestling?

Good point by Micheal Chiesa. “Donkey” was used by the creator, Miyamoto, to convey stubbornness; it was laughed at but the name stuck.
Accurate.
This isn’t conclusive by any means, but it could be concerning for combat athletes.

Dustin Poirier is one of the hardest workers in MMA

Leslie Smith’s got a point, and that didn’t happen overnight. It took decades of fighting for the players to get to this point. I doubt MMA will ever get there.
LOOK HOW MUCH UNIONIZED ATHLETES MAKE
$30mil a year compared to …what did @dc_mma get for becoming the Champ Champ? Was it $500k? The ‘baddest man on the planet’ would have to fight 60 times in one year to make as much as Mark Scherzer#whyunionizehttps://t.co/u8YnlawBgG pic.twitter.com/mMi3DRv1hS

Slips, Rips, KO Clips
I want to see more of this raised platform so we can get Sumo-MMA hybridization.

Day10 yet another great brawl. 3-6 #Asanoyama who I haven’t shown much of vs 6-3 #Onosho who was in yusho race just a few days ago. #Hatsubasho #sumo pic.twitter.com/QM53wPmuyl

Day10 lots of good brawls today. 4-5 #Komusubi #Myogiryu who easily beat #Ichinojo ystrdy vs #makuuchi personal fav #Hokutofuji who’s had 2 straight losses since his 2 straight fusensho wins. pic.twitter.com/ni1DP5KUl8

Day10 short but lots of energy expended. Last time’s #yusho winner #Sekiwake #Takakeisho can get KK if he can plow thru #ozeki #Takayasu who is flirting with kadoban. #Hatsubasho #sumo pic.twitter.com/aWh7vt921V

The end of history
Day10 makushita. Fukuyama (L), going for his KK, is one to watch, you’ll see why. He does dynamic sumo like this quite a lot. He’s vs Yokoe. #Hatsubasho #sumo pic.twitter.com/1G4uA87pir

This looks almost like aikido. Also, ouch
Day10 juryo great TOTTARi (for definition see here: https://t.co/qIRzqmbBcr) from Arawashi (L) vs Chiyonoumi. But yes, another injury. It looks pretty bad in slo-mo. I’ll spare you.. #Hatsubasho #sumo pic.twitter.com/FPdKttuiKX
