Welcome to Midnight Mania!
Somehow, talks of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Georges St. Pierre are not only refusing to die despite being shutdown several times over the years, but they’re gaining steam! Even with the Canadian legend retired and without any experience at 155 lbs., each day Khabib himself sounds more confident than the bout will happen.
With UFC on board, there remains some potential hurdles to the super fight. First and foremost, Nurmagomedov must deal with Justin Gaethje, who plans to “create car crashes” opposite the Dagestani combatant.
If Nurmagomedov is victorious, however, it seems his heart is fully set on St. Pierre. “This is a fight between my dreams and my father,” Nurmagomedov explained (transcription via MMAJunkie). “Time is ticking, St-Pierre is 40 years old next year, he has to decide whether we will fight or not.
“If (St-Pierre) comes back to the UFC and agrees to fight me, I’m fighting him,” Nurmagomedov continued. “Why? Because the last time he lost was 2007. My career started in 2008. Together we’ve been undefeated for 25 years. I’m talking in terms of time, not fights. I don’t think the UFC will get another chance to make a fight like that, definitely not in the next 10 years. So, Georges St-Pierre is next. If not, then let Conor beat (Dustin) Poirier or have Tony beat him, then I’ll fight them.”
“If I beat Gaethje, then in April I could fight St-Pierre. (The UFC) told me that they will negotiate with St-Pierre.”
Of course, UFC negotiations with St. Pierre have failed in the past. Still, Nurmagomedov seems confident the bout will work out, and he does have more control and influence than most in his position.

Midnight Music: A month or so ago — I think? Time is a blur — I posted an Orville Peck track from his upcoming EP Show Pony. It officially released today, so I checked that out tonight, and while there are a couple songs that miss the mark, overall I liked it a lot!
