Midnight Mania! Watch Diego Brandao bite ear, jump out of cage after headbutt, lose fight

Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

This certainly fits the “weird and wild” promise I make to my readers.

Diego Brandao is both of those things, and never more so than today. In the main event of, FNG 73 in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, he bit the ear of his opponent Akhmet Aliev, got headbutted, illegally upkicked Aliev when the referee separated them, decided he was done with the whole thing as fans threw bottles and trash into the cage, jumped the fence, and got called back in and was judged to have lost the fight by technical knockout. In the meantime, a brawl broke out in the crowd. Just another fight night in Dagestan.

Totally bizarre scene at FNG 73. Fans chucking garbage. Diego Brandao leaves the cage. #FNG73 pic.twitter.com/RjwUqS0uS8

Shouts to combat sports superfan Grabaka Hitman for pointing out the ear-bite. Reminds me a little bit of that of Tyson-Holyfield craziness.

So.. at 0:05 it looks like Diego actually bites Aliev’s ear? Things spiral out of control after that. https://t.co/eyCXgywgTE

Sambo allows headbutts, it seems.

In the co-main event, another Brazilian UFC veteran, Fabio Maldonado, won his fight with this choke.

On that note…

UFC fighters getting PPV points should negotiate clause that points are based on Dana White’s boasted PPV sales, not actual sales.

Ben Askren retired this weekend- after he fights Shinya Aoki November 24th in Singapore. He may have been denied entry into the UFC, but he was one of the best welterweights ever to do it, and he got paid for it.

He has always done it his own way. @Benaskren has made the best look like amateurs. He won at prize fighting. Leaving the sport untouched.

I’ll believe this unsubstantiated rumor when it is substantiated, but it is crazy enough to include. This fight is more likely, though.

Looking sharp at that weight, too. He’ll need all the power he’s got against Gennady Golovkin.

At least Stefan Struve got himself a Fight of the Night bonus in his hometown loss Saturday.

Well I guess it was a good fight at least https://t.co/1rtK6n9awL

The irony

Schilt and Struve probably live a few train stations away. Yet he never bothered to learn tall striking from him and he’s cornering Volkov.

Lots of spinning back kicks to the body, I imagine.
