Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate will defend her title for the first time against top division contender Amanda Nunes at the monumental UFC 200 pay-per-view (PPV) event tonight (Sat., July 9, 2016) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tate — who recently inked a contract extension to remain with UFC — won the 135-pound title back in March after she choked out Holly Holm in the fifth round of their UFC 196 title fight. The victory was “Cupcake’s” fifth straight inside the Octagon.

Not bad for someone who contemplated retirement not too long ago.

As for Nunes, she is currently riding a three-fight win streak, with her most previous victory coming over Valentina Shevchenko, also at UFC 196. After the bout, “Lioness” demanded a shot at the women’s strap. Those calls, obviously, did not fall on deaf ears, as promotion matchmakers gave the Brazilian what she so desperately desired.

Time to see if it pays off.
