It was another setback for Miguel Torres. And it sure looked serious.
The former WEC bantamweight champion competed in his first kickboxing match Friday night and it ended when his knee buckled in gruesome fashion following a kick.
Torres, who competed against Angel Huerta, was on the receiving end of a front kick to the leg and results were devastating. The bout took place at Legacy Kickboxing 1 in Houston and aired live on AXS TV.
Torres wrote on Facebook that the fight was contracted for 135 pounds, but at weigh-ins he found out it would be at 140. It also seemed like he implied that a kick to the knee was illegal.
Torres, who has a 43-8 MMA record, was once considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. The Indiana native was cut from the UFC in 2012 and then lost two straight in World Series of Fighting. Torres, 33, is 3-1 in his last four bouts, but fell to Desmond Green at Titan FC 31 in October.
