American Top Team coach Mike Brown actually foresaw the Jorge Masvidal flying knee that knocked out Ben Askren inside five seconds.
UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal notched his second straight win in spectacular fashion. “Gamebred” kicked off the action of his UFC 239 fight against Ben Askren with a flying knee, resulting in a five-second knockout, now the fastest in UFC history.
American Top Team coach Mike Brown apparently expected Masvidal to begin the fight with that flying knee, as shown by a screenshot of his text message to interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier.

Things got a bit personal between Askren and Masvidal through the build-up of their fight, after words were thrown back-and-forth. It was also served as his primary motivation to score a dominant finish.
“’Cause he’s a bum,” Masvidal told Joe Rogan during the Octagon interview when asked why he entered with the flying knee. “That dude was talking wild, man. I had to show him that there’s consequences sometime. There’s some bad motherf—rs out there, and you don’t want to wake them up. You should’ve kept your mouth shut.
“I probably would’ve beat you up in the second round.”
The knockout marks Askren’s first career loss, as he now holds a record of 19-1 (with 1 NC and 12 wins by stoppage). Masvidal, meanwhile, improves to a record of 34-13 (with 17 wins by stoppage).
