A Heavyweight matchup has been added to Bellator MMA’s upcoming event on April 2, 2021 with the announcement that Matt Mitrione will make his long-awaited return to action to face Tyrell Fortune at Bellator 255.
Mitrione will look to pick up a much-needed victory after losing three of his last four fights to Ryan Bader, Timothy Johnson and Sergei Kharitonov. His loss to Kharitonov was a rematch that occurred after their initial encounter ended in a no contest (NC) due to an unintentional groin strike from “Meathead” prevented Sergei from continuing.
Mitrione’s last victory came against Roy Nelson back in 2018, which was in the midst of his four fight win streak and including three consecutive wins inside the Bellator cage against Nelson, Fedor Emelianenko and Oli Thompson.
As for Fortune, he has been putting in plenty of work for Bellator since 2016 with all of his pro MMA fights taking place for the Viacom-owned organization. During his run, he has earned 9-1 mark and was last seen defeating Said Sowma at Bellator 251 last November.
Bellator 255 will air exclusively on Showtime — the promotion’s first event with the network — and will feature a rematch between Featherweight champion Patricio Freire taking on Emmanuel Sanchez once again in what will be the final semifinal match of the Featherweight Grand Prix. Furthermore, Usman Nurmagoemdov will make his debut for the promotion when he takes on Mike Hamel in Lightweight action.
