Alexander Gustafsson took the concept of wearing one’s heart on their sleeve to a new, literal level. It’s fitting, for a man who brought out the best in everyone he fought.
Far better writers than I will opine on the legacy of Alexander Gustafsson, and that is right. He deserves it, because his fights with Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier coaxed out the most gut wrenching performances from two of the greatest fighters to cross the chain link threshold.
For now, he will walk away as one of the greatest fighters to never hold a belt and the story of his career will remain etched into his skin. A testament to his willingness to own every failure, and register his discontent when his efforts fell short of the judges.
Take care of yourself and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
