Not that he’s without bias, but you perk up a bit when you hear someone, especially Pat Miletich, say anyone would ‘wreck’ former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
Current welterweight champion Robbie Lawler spent years training under the UFC Hall of Famer in Bettendorf, Iowa, but Miletich says the slugger would have been a nightmare matchup for St-Pierre long before his recent career resurgence at American Top Team.
“I think at the time Georges St. Pierre was the champion and I told people, and a lot of people laughed at me about that, but I said Robbie Lawler is the worst possible match up for George St. Pierre,” Miletich told Submission Radio. “Robbie will absolutely wreck him.
“And now obviously we didn’t get to find out about that match up because Georges has stepped away for a while, or maybe for good, we don’t know. But Robbie is a bad match up for almost anybody because of his skill set and how dangerous he is and how hard he hits.”
Giving St-Pierre his due credit in his own way, Miletich doesn’t think the former champion would be able to execute against Lawler.
“Georges was a guy that was very good at the transition game, very good at making people think they’re in a boxing match and hitting takedowns when people least expect it,” said Miletich. “[He was] very good at holding people down, very good at controlling people, and pretty dang good with his jab and setting stuff up off of that jab.
“But Robbie is a much more refined striker than Georges is. He hits much harder and Georges certainly would not be able to hold Rob down and ride out a decision. It just wouldn’t happen. So given those two things, it would not be a good match up for Georges period.”
With St-Pierre’s manager recently stating his fighter has no plans to return to fighting in 2015, we’ll have to take Pat’s word for it.

The power of visualization and other thoughts on McGregor vs Aldo
Part 1: Visualization
About 2 years ago I first heard about Conor and I remember watching the MTV documentary “The Rise of Conor McGregor” among other videos and interviews which fueled the initial buzz around him. A bunch of things he said in that video really stood out to me and made an impression on me. I was a believer at that point that he was a very unique/special talent and personality, and it was largely because of the things he was saying, his mind state and attitude.
