Steve Shepard forced a mugger into retreat after being sucker punched in West Palm Beach, Fl.
On December 27th, Steve Shepherd, 68, was leaving Anita’s Mexican Grill in West Palm Beach, Fl. He was heading to his car with a slight limp; he’d strained himself while running. When he reached his car he felt an impact over the back of his head. It was a bottle.
“Give me your f—king phone,” said the man who had allegedly struck Shepherd (per 25 WPBF News). The assailant had not only hit Shepherd with a bottle on the back of his head, but had also punched him in the eye.
Even though the alleged attacker got the drop on Shepherd, attacking this particular senior would prove to be an epic mistake.
“I hit him in the ribs, in the left rib cage area and he just folded up and dropped and I felt it break,” said Shepherd to local media. After being struck the alleged robber fled the scene. This can be seen in surveillance images released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Shepherd is a member of the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame. Between 1975 and 1999 he amassed a pro kickboxing record of 50-5 (1 NC) (27 KOs). During his career he held five world titles across four weight classes (welterweight, middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight).
Though Shepherd suffered a bruised and cut eye in the attack, he said he’s “lucky” and added that he’s never been knocked out in his life.
Shepherd discussed the attack further, and demonstrated his rib roasting techniques, on FOX News. See that video below.
Today Shepherd runs Ringstar Promotions and Ringstar Products. He also operates a kickboxing and fitness studio in West Palm Beach.
Shepherd’s assailant remains at large. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office say the suspect is a white male with long dark hair in his early 20s. There is a $3,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
