Lyman Good and Belal Muhammad faced each other in a Welterweight bout tonight (Sat., June 20, 2020) at UFC on ESPN 10 from inside UFC APEX from Las Vegas, Nevada. After an exciting back-and-forth battle, Belal Muhammad was awarded the victory.
The two began the bout by trading jabs. Muhammad kicked from the outside, while Good flurried forward with a combination. Muhammad moved in-and-out with quick punches of his own. Good’s sharp jab connected clean. Muhammad used a takedown feint to sneak an uppercut through the guard. Nice body kick landed for “Remember The Name.” Muhammad avoiding the worst of Good’s power shots halfway through the round. A pair of hard jabs scored for the former Bellator champion. Muhammad jumped forward with a knee to the body, then ate a heavy 1-2. The two traded kicks near the bell.
Good began the second round with pressure, while Muhammad continued to play the matador and attack low kicks. Muhammad nearly scored a trip takedown, but Good defended well. Solid right hand scored for Good, who remained on the wrong side of the volume equation. Muhammad sneaked a pair of hard jabs through the guard, then both men landed powerful punches in the pocket. Muhammad returned a clean body kick. Major flurry from Good connected, briefly wobbling his opponent’s knees. Muhammad returned to the footwork and kicks. Muhammad was evasive until the end of the second round, which proved another competitive five minutes.
Good was aggressive at the start of the third, stinging his foe with some jabs. Good landed a chopping low kick and then stunned Muhammad with a hard right hand. The follow up left hook dropped Muhammad, who recovered with a takedown attempt. Muhammad bled freely and ate another right hand. Good dug a hard knee into his foe’s mid-section and continued to attack. Muhammad seemed to have his feet beneath him once again, but Good was really walking him down halfway through the round. Body-head combination ripped hard for Good. Superman punch scored for Good! Muhammad responded with a double leg takedown and briefly secured it! Back up, Good cracked his foe with another right. Solid body kick landed for Muhammad, who then landed a takedown into back mount! Muhammad held that position for the final 30 seconds of the fight.
All in all, it was an excellent fight after a slower start. Good’s early hesitancy came back to cost him, as his third-round barrage was not enough to win the judges back to his side.
Result: Belal Muhammad defeats Lyman Good via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
